Email Permissions Explained

Understanding what permissions we need and why they're necessary for Eskra to work

Updated 2 days ago

What are email permissions?

Email permissions are the access rights that Eskra needs to connect to your email account and provide AI-powered replies. When you connect Gmail, Outlook, or any email provider, you're granting specific permissions that allow our service to read incoming emails, compose draft replies, and send emails on your behalf. These permissions are standard OAuth 2.0 scopes that ensure secure, controlled access to your email account.

Eskra only requests the minimum permissions necessary to function. We never ask for more access than we need.

Permissions we need

To provide you with intelligent, automated email responses, Eskra requires three core permissions. Each permission serves a specific purpose in our workflow:

Read Access
We need to read your emails to understand the context, customer questions, and conversation history. Without read access, we wouldn't be able to generate relevant, personalized responses.
We use this to:
  • Retrieve incoming emails from your inbox
  • Analyze email content and context for AI processing
  • Access conversation threads to maintain context
  • Check for attachments and email metadata
Write/Modify Access
Write access allows us to mark emails as read or processed and organize your inbox. This keeps your email account clean and well-organized while our AI works in the background.
We use this to:
  • Mark emails as read after you reply to them
  • Apply labels or move emails to folders (if configured)
  • Update email metadata for tracking purposes
  • Keep your inbox organized automatically
Send Access
Send permission enables Eskra to send email replies on your behalf after you've reviewed and approved them. You generate AI-powered replies in our platform, edit them as needed, and then send them directly.
We use this to:
  • Send replies that you've reviewed and approved in the platform
  • Send emails directly from your email address
  • Maintain your sender identity and email signature

Security & Privacy

Your email security and privacy are our top priorities. Here's how we protect your data and ensure your email account remains secure:

Encrypted Connections

All connections between Eskra and your email provider use industry-standard TLS encryption. Your credentials are never stored in plain text.

Secure Token Storage

We use OAuth 2.0 tokens instead of storing your password. Tokens are encrypted at rest and can be revoked at any time without changing your password.

No Human Access

Your emails are processed entirely by AI. No human staff members at Eskra can read your emails or access your account.

You Control Everything

You can disconnect your account, revoke permissions, or delete all your data at any time from your dashboard settings.

What we DON'T do with your data

Transparency is important to us. Here are things we explicitly do NOT do with your email data:

  • We don't sell your email data to third parties or advertisers
  • We don't use your emails to train AI models for other customers
  • We don't send marketing emails or spam from your account
  • We don't read emails that aren't part of active customer conversations
  • We don't share your email content with anyone outside of necessary AI processing

Revoking access

You can revoke Eskra's access to your email account at any time. Simply go to your account settings and click "Disconnect" next to your connected email account. This immediately removes all permissions and stops all email processing. You can also revoke access directly from your email provider's security settings (Google Account, Microsoft Account, etc.).

⚠️ When you disconnect your account, any email data we've processed will be retained for 30 days to allow for reactivation, then permanently deleted.
